When We Don’t Check Qualifications Before Saving a Life

“If somebody needed CPR… and they were laying right in front of me… would we stop to check their qualifications?”
If you told me, “Save them,”and I responded:
Have we checked their church membership?Do they tithe?Do they know the worship songs?Have they served yet?
You would look at me like I lost my mind.
You would say one thing: “Save them.”
From Flight Nurse to Faith Calling
For over 16 years, my life has been dedicated to saving people—their physical lives.
In flight medicine:
We don’t check background
We don’t evaluate worthiness
We don’t ask for history
We respond. We act. We rescue.
Because when a life is on the line, nothing else matters.
And yet…
How often does the Church hesitate?
When God places someone in front of us—someone broken, lost, or hurting—we pause. We question. We measure.
Instead of rescuing.
The Hidden Reality of Healthcare
In healthcare, we have names for what we experience:
Burnout
Compassion fatigue
Emotional exhaustion
There is a strong push for mental health awareness, and that matters.
But what about spiritual health?
What about the part of us that feels empty even when everything on the outside looks okay?
Because I lived that.
Searching for Healing in the Wrong Places
When I began to feel that brokenness, I searched for help.
And it came in forms that looked healthy:
Meditation
Aromatherapy
Guided imagery
Yoga
Other spiritual practices of the world
For a moment, it felt like relief.
But deep down, I was still empty.
The Night Everything Changed
Then came my husband’s accident.
The weight of it.The reality.The fear.The unknown.
That night, I went home and cried out to God—not casually, but from a place of complete brokenness.
And in that moment, I heard Him.
Not condemnation, but calling:
“Leave your ways.”
I didn’t fully understand it. I didn’t have clarity. But I knew I had to obey.
Returning to Truth
I walked away from everything I thought was helping:
Meditation
Energy-based practices
Alternative healing approaches
And I picked up Scripture.
I started with Psalm 23.
I read it over and over again for months.
From Spiritual Death to Life
As I continued reading, something changed.
Scripture was no longer just words. It became alive.
It revealed truth. It revealed Jesus Christ—not as a concept, but as Savior.
And I realized something that was difficult to face:
I wasn’t just struggling.
I was spiritually dead.
Following the ways of the world, not the ways of the Father.
The Rescue I Didn’t Know I Needed
Just like the patient on the ground needing CPR—that was me.
And Jesus did not ask:
Does she have it all together?Has she been in church?Does she qualify?
He saved me.
A Calling Forward
Now I am stepping into a new season.
Not just saving lives physically, but sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Because there are so many people who are:
Burnt out
Exhausted
Searching
Numb
Broken
Looking for healing in everything except the One who truly heals.
If You Feel Lost
If you feel empty…If you feel broken…If you have tried everything and still feel like something is missing…
You are not alone.
Jesus Christ is not of this world.
He is not another coping mechanism or tool.
He is the way, the truth, and the life. (John 14:6)
And He wants a relationship with you—not based on your qualifications, your past, or your performance.
No More Qualification Checks
We do not check qualifications before saving a life.
And neither does Jesus.
If He is calling you, respond.
A Final Invitation
If you’ve made it this far, I want to invite you to do one simple thing:
Pick up Scripture and start reading.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t need a perfect plan. You don’t need to understand everything right away. Just start.
You can read it:
In a physical Bible
Online
Through an app
As an audiobook
There are so many ways to begin.
Find a version that you understand—one that speaks clearly to you and helps you learn.
For me, the simplest place to start was the New Living Translation (NLT). That’s where my journey began years ago. Since then, my faith has grown, and now I study from multiple versions. Looking back, I can truly say—it’s been a journey of coming a long way in both faith and understanding the Word of God.
And it all started with simply opening the Bible and reading.
If you’ve made it this far in this blog, please know this:
I am praying for you.
I am praying that the Lord guides you, meets you where you are, and holds you steady as you begin or continue your faith journey.
If you have questions, need encouragement, or just want to talk, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You are not alone in this.
“May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”— Numbers 6:24–26
