Bible Study for Healthcare Workers

The Woman at the Well (John 4:1–26)

Why This Study Matters (Especially for Healthcare Workers)

In healthcare, we are trained to assess, intervene, and carry.

We walk into rooms where people are: broken overwhelmed dependent searching

And we show up.

But rarely do we stop and ask: Who is caring for the one who is always pouring out?

That is why this story matters.

The Woman at the Well is not just a story about someone Jesus met—It is a story about someone He saw fully… and still chose to sit with.

And for those of us in healthcare—this hits differently.

Because: We are used to being the strong one

The composed one

The one with answers

But this story reminds us: We are also the ones in need of living water.

Why This Moment in Scripture Is So Powerful

This wasn’t a random encounter.

Jesus intentionally goes to Jacob’s well in Samaria—a place layered with over 2,000 years of history and promise.

He stands on:Land Jacob purchased (Genesis 33)

Where Joseph’s bones were buried (Joshua 24).

Where God’s covenant was renewed

Where division between people grew

And in that exact place…

Jesus shifts everything.

From: Location to Relationship Religion to Renewal Physical water to Living water

The Big Picture (Simple Timeline)

Promise → Egypt → Exodus → Promised Land → Kingdom → Division → Silence → Jesus at the Well

And at that moment…

He reveals:It was never about the place—it was always about Him.

Welcome

This Bible study was created for healthcare workers—especially nurses—to come as they are.

Not as professionals who need to have it all together, but as people who carry a lot.

This is a space for: Rest, Reflection, Honest processing Spiritual growth

Because while we constantly pour into others…we also need to be filled.

Scripture Focus

The Woman at the Well – John 4:1–26

“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” – John 4:14

This story shows how Jesus meets someone in an ordinary, everyday moment—and speaks directly into her deeper needs.

He knows her story fully, yet still chooses to sit with her, speak with her, and offer her something greater.

Before You Begin

Since we are not meeting in person, this becomes something even more intentional.

This is not about rushing through Scripture. This is about sitting with it.

Over the next week:

  1. Read John 4:1–26 slowly

  2. Re-read it throughout the week

  3. Sit with the story daily, even if just for a few minutes

This is not about perfect understanding or having the “right” answers. It is about becoming aware, reflecting, and allowing Scripture to speak into your life.

How to Study This Passage

As you read, consider:

What is happening in the scene?

What is Jesus doing and saying?

How does the woman respond?

What feels familiar or relatable to your own life?

Take your time. Let the story unfold.

Reflection Questions

You can journal, pray through, or simply think about these:

What stands out to me in this story?

Why do I think the woman came to the well alone?

What does it mean that Jesus knew her story and still engaged with her?

Where do I feel most stretched or drained right now?

Where do I go when I feel empty?

What might “living water” look like in my life?

What does true rest look like for me right now?

Personal Reflection for Healthcare Providers

In healthcare, we are trained to recognize and respond to the needs of others.

But we often overlook our own need to be seen, known, and restored.

This story is a reminder that:

Jesus meets us in ordinary moments

He sees what others may not

He understands what we carry

He offers something deeper than temporary relief

Prayer for the Week

Lord,

You know me fully—my burdens, my thoughts, my exhaustion, and my needs. Help me to come to You honestly. Help me to slow down and sit with You. Teach me what it means to receive from You, not just pour out for others. Fill what feels empty. Bring rest where I feel stretched.

Amen.

Closing Encouragement

Take time to sit with this story.

Not just to read it—but to reflect on it.

Return to it throughout the week.

Let it speak to your current season.

You do not need to have answers.

Just come willing.

One Line to Hold Onto

Jesus stood on the ground of fulfilled promises to reveal a greater promise that was never about the ground at all.
